The recommended daily amount of sodium per person is 1,500 mg, but most Americans consume three times that amount.  Too much sodium often leads to high blood pressure and can leach calcium from bones.  To regulate, try matching sodium to calories; food with 50 calories should have 50 mg of sodium.
